Teams from some of the world’s top diving nations will line up against New Zealand’s best at the Fisher & Paykel Asia Pacific Rim Junior Diving Invitational, December 16-18.
The inaugural event will bring together 70 junior elite springboard and platform divers – some as young as 11 – from China, the USA, Australia and New Zealand in what promises to be a thriller for spectators at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre.
Hosts Wellington High Performance Aquatics (WHPA) will field a team of nine divers, including Commonwealth Games hopeful, Gabe Armstrong Scott, and brother Ollie who is aiming for the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympics.
The highly ranked Chinese divers will provide stiff competition, especially from the likes of Liang Hong Yu, the youth champion in springboard and Junior Champion, Tai Xiao Hu.
The Diving Invitational is an event for all Wellingtonians, but especially for families to enjoy. The evening knock-out sessions will be sensational viewing as will the heats and finals run during the day.
